We have a number of free events in the Stage Left area. We want to make our festival accessible to everyone. However, you do need to book these in advance – so please go to the website www. palacetheatrepaignton.co.uk – the ‘crime’ events are already booking very strongly, and you do need to book the ‘Open Mic’ sessions. These will be done on a ‘out-of-the-hat basis’ – in other words the names of those that want to read will have their names put into a hat and then drawn at random to read. We have approximately ten 6-minute reading sessions per Open Mic event, so there may not be the opportunity for everyone to read. However, there are four of these sessions, so hopefully enough for everyone. Clearly as this is the first time, we have done this, we don’t know the demand.
In other news if you are attending the Hunter Davies Saturday morning session, or the FREE Georgia Toffolo event in the afternoon, pop into Stage Left, as we have the local choir Mezzo Mammas singing to entertain us during the lunch break.
Finally, we have been asked about questions to authors. You can send in a question to any author (even if you are not attending their event) to questions@torbayliteraryfestival.co.uk and we will include these at each event. At the Palace Theatre, we will also have two boxes (one near the main stage, and one on the stage left area, where we sell books). There will be forms to complete with your name and question. At a lot of events there is also a break before authors are asked questions and there will be a VERY short opportunity to put questions in then, but ideally, we ask you do this in advance, as this will be at most a 10-minute window!
